You may have been wondering where I have been lately! Week seven was my first week of interval-free running and it is a little less motivating, honestly. Particularly when it calls for running 25 minutes each time {or 2.5 miles... you know because I can run a 10 minute mile already} and you feel as if you aren't even close to being able to accomplish that. Well, I just decided to take it in stride {pun partially intended} and see how it went. Success I think!
Day One
This run went much better than I was expecting. At this point the thought of running 25 minutes straight sounded so ridiculous. Considering my reservations, I feel like I did pretty darn well, albeit slow as per usual! I was basically able to do run, no problem. I took two short 45 second walking breaks after 10 minutes and after 18 minutes. To make up for them though, I ran to 26 minutes rather than 25. I had a real-life Rocky moment where I threw my fists in the air way over my head... don't worry I was on a sleepy side street so hopefully no one saw. Pace: 13:41
Day Two
I ventured out in the wonderful town of South Bend for this run. J and I were in town for a conference, and as I told you before, I was hoping to do a run around these lakes. However, I decided to run along a lovely river walk {which Martha tells me is called East Race} which just so happens to be right on the other side of the river from my dear school. Needless to say, while it was a beautiful day, I was very much distracted by the pretty scenery and stopped a lot. My pace didn't suffer, making me questioning the mile markers on the path... but I will take it! Pace: 12:30
Day Three
So... after that I somehow decided to take a good week off from running. Yep... I took an entire week off of running within the two weeks before the 5k. Go me. Anywho, I was expecting a very bad run given my laziness of late. What I got was my best run yet! It was similar to Day One in how it turned out. I stopped twice for either 15 or 30 seconds, and I don't really remember at what point. I pushed myself more than I thought possible and felt even later in the run that I was running faster than I have in the past. Well, after over 27 minutes {heck yes} I started walking home again feeling ridiculously accomplished. Rightly so, it was my farthest training as well as my fastest. Pace: 11:53

So, I am feeling great right now! As I only have time for about 3 more runs before the 5k on Thanksgiving, I will be combining weeks 8 and 9. Meaning some combination of 28 and 30 minute jogs before the big day! Thanks for sticking with me friends! I will try to give you one last update before the race!

PS - Happy birthday husband!

I'm doing a 5K the Sunday after Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on Thursday! You'll do great! : )
Awesome! Your race is almost here! I can't believe your persistence with this! Keep on keeping on!
ReplyDeletePS hope your hubs has a good birthday!
One day soon we can run the East Race together, maybe even with strollers :)
ReplyDeleteGood job! It does get easier, doesn't it? Except when I'm doing obligatory interval speed-workouts, I avoid running with a watch. It's mainly because I really love the feeling of just letting all my cares float away for the duration of my runs. That way, it's easier to actually experience runs rather than feeling as if I'm performing glorified clock-watching. Good luck on the 5k! I hope you feel like this on race day : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA1_aw2wAYI

Oh here I am going through old posts...it wasn't the East Race...the East Race is on the opposite (east) bank downtown where we used to live (although we lived on the west and still do). It's just the Riverside Trail up here. :) Glad you enjoyed it though!
