This update is quite a bit late... but I decided to give you a quick wrap up as I sit in Starbucks {not running} on this fine Wednesday evening...
So I did it - Week 2.1! I'd like to tell you that I kicked butt and really stayed on track, but I didn't. I did however run in a 5k on Saturday! It wasn't my first, but it was my first since high school... which was 10 years ago. Without further delay... here's how Week 2.1 went.
Day One
I did this run on the treadmill. It was pretty yucky outside, but I decided to get up and head to the gym at 6:30 in the morning. For those of you who know me or follow me on twitter, you know this is a very big feat for me! Well, it was an awesome run. Remember, on Week 2.0 Day 1, I also had an awesome run. I didn't let that get me down though, it really was a good run. I pushed myself to run faster than I have and I felt pretty accomplished at the end.
Day Two
Ummm... this never happened. Shhh don't tell anyone. It was cold, rainy, and I had a super nasty cold {that lasted a whole week!}. So, I decided it was in my best interest NOT to run during those days... at least, until Saturday.
Day Three
I'm counting the 5k as Day Three because I ran my heart out. I finished the race in 41:13. That's a pace of 13:18. Considering my pace starting out was closer to 15:30, I'm feeling pretty awesome about that. Granted, race day is always more exhilarating than a normal training day {with lots of fun strangers cheering you on!}, but keep in mind not only was I sick, it was also 44 degrees outside. So I think the pomp of the day was balanced out.

I've decided that Week 3 is happening. I don't know if J will be keeping up with me, but he was oddly motivated by our "bad" times on Saturday. We're still planning on a 5k on Thanksgiving morning {Shout out to Melissa - you are doing this with us!} but right now is when we need the most encouragement. As in, I should probably stop typing and go for a run now...
Thanks for sticking with us. My hope is that next week you have a full report of Week 3! No excuses - play like a champion!

I think the Couch to 5K is an amazing program. I ran my first 5K in March, and ran another one a couple weeks ago. I was never a runner before, and it makes me feel so good to finish those races!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing the 5K! That's seriously awesome. And keep the weeks coming and running going. There's nothing like finishing your first race, but you get a super high when you run another and beat your original time. Kinda makes you believe anything is possible.
