run kate run

Recently J and I decided we were going to train for a 5k using the Couch to 5k program. {He may tell you that I decided and then forced him into it, but don't believe him.} In order to keep our motivation up and to have a bit more accountability, I've decided to update you, my friends, here on the blog! Normally, I will try to give you a weekly wrap up of our progress.

We originally were planning on starting this in July to train for a 5k on October 1st. However, summer got the best of us and we just started this week. We are still going to run in this race, but as part of our training. We are hoping to finish our first full 5k on Thanksgiving morning. {Well, it's not my first 5k. I've done quite a few others but that was ohsovery  long ago.}

The first week consists of 3 identical runs. After a 5 minute warm up walk, you alternate between 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Sounds simple enough, but when you are just starting out, even this can be difficult {especially towards the end of the run!}

We're very excited about this new goal of ours and we can't wait for that feeling of accomplishment when we finish our first 5k! Wish us luck and we hope you'll follow us along the way. Stay tuned later this week for a wrap up of how our first week of training went! {Hint: so far so good!}

  1. Awesome! I remember getting into running about a year ago. Once you get into a rhythm it can be tough to get out of it, so you guys should do great. Best of luck!

  2. Good for you, Kate! I remember when I first started running -- I had to work on just increasing my stamina from walking to fast walking to slow jogs. Now, I run faster than I ever thought I would (and I'm still working on building my speed). It feels great.

  3. Way to go! And trust me I know how hard the first bit is... I kinda started running last summer and I could hardly breathe after running for just 30seconds! But keep up the hard work! :)
