Old New Again

When I found Old New Again, my heart just melted. I love all of the shelving and hooks and mason jars... oh, I love it. The distressed wood is to die for and the bright colors add so much! The shop owners and artists are Liz & Rick - read more about them and their precious shop!

What made y'all decide to start an etsy shop?

My husband, Rick, lost his job of 11 years in January 2009. It was quite a shock! I had been selling my artwork on etsy for quite some time before that, so it wasn't long before I laid in bed at night trying to drum up ideas of what HE could make and sell. He had made small tables and other larger wooden pieces for the home, but I knew that tables & larger items wouldn't work for us on etsy. I hate shipping large things! So I came up with some smaller items and it just all got crazy from then on! :)

We have a nice routine set up. I design most of our products. Rick cuts, sands, and constructs. I stain, paint and varnish. I do all the photography, computer work, and shipping. Right now Rick works two other part time jobs, but we are hoping by the fall he can quit one and we can live on our shop here on etsy with just ONE part time job! This is so exciting for me as I've always had my own business, but I knew Rick would love it, too... and he does!

Anything with a mason jar is perfect in my book.

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?

I start with ideas that I would like myself. And it's also so important for them to be useful. I try to think of things that are simple, yet unique. Things need to serve a purpose. For instance, I love fresh flowers, but I don't like them on a table. So I came up with the "holey" shelf.

What a perfect idea! That would be very helpful on a busy table!

What is your favorite thing that you're currently selling and why?

I love the guitar! It is so cool in person and I think it would be a great graduation or Father's Day gift! I think all guys went through a "I wanna be a rock star" phase.
